Hugo Mapelli is a French photographer who spent over eight years working alongside Peter Lindbergh as an assistant and Hedi Slimane as Director of Photography, before establishing his personal practice in Paris. Self-taught, he approaches photography through its historical foundations, combining film with early processes such as photograms, cyanotypes, and lumen prints. In his darkroom, he hybridizes analog chemistry with digital tools, turning light and pixel grids into sensitive visual works.

His universe merges poetic intimacy with raw experimentation. Capturing fleeting moments, human presence, and organic forms, his practice embraces physical chance and material memory to revive the spirit of Pictorialism. In 2026, Saint Laurent Babylone presented a solo exhibition of his artworks in Paris, curated by Anthony Vaccarello alongside the publication of Fanzine N°21.

Parallel to his personal research, his tactile approach to light and image-making has led to recurring commissions from houses including Chanel, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton, alongside editorial work for publications such as Wallpaper*, D Repubblica, and Harper's Bazaar Italia.
